Behold the power of linux. I installed a SuSe distrobution of linux on a machine last night and set up apache on it. It should get php4 on it today. It is a local http, ftp, ssh, etc... server. It is a small machine (~300mhz, 3gig, 64megs), but it is perfect as a webserver. Well, almost perfect. It is an acer 'value' computer, so it has issues. It only has 1 pci slot, currently taken up by a modem. I got a nic installed after a fun time with a dremel :) However, no matter what OS i run on it (I have tried win98, 95, redhat 7.3, and now suse) the computer wont start with the card in it. So until I can get a USB nic (do they make them?), it will be a *very* local server. It is something I can practice php on though. I love linux. It works.
