summertime in the air
I couldn't go a month without posting, so here's what's on my mind as of late. Finals coming up which means only one thing... school's almost over yet again. These things really do get shorter every year. One of my roommates is gettting way out of hand so we are kicking him out tonight, or so I hear. He does lots of drugs in the house, which isn't very cool, plus he's addicted to xanax as well as a major alcoholic. We (my other roommates and I) were literally scared to kick him out for fear of what he might do in retaliation, or in the drunken stupor of the night. We already have several holes in our walls, plus his room reeks of cigarettes. We got a hold of his mom's address from incoming mail, so at least we know how we can get to him if anything does happen. Did I mention he is independently wealthy so he doesn't go to school or have a job? [/rant]
I am apparently in a mountain bike race this weekend for some reason or another. It's a 24 hour deal located in Cool, CA. (no, really...) My neighbors set up a relay team to tackle a 9 mile course alternating riders for 24 hours straight. What have I gotten myself into?
Europe 2006 is happening. Still getting over the fact that I am actaully going. One of my neighbors (from aforementioned bike race) decided at the drop of a hat that he wants to go to Europe as well, so we are meeting up in Paris within a day or two of each other arriving. I flat out told him that I planned this as a solo trip, and he seemed pretty cool about it. We agreed to stick together for a week or two to get our bearings, but then to go our separate ways once we get to Amsterdam. Again, mixed feelings, but we'll see how it goes.
Finishing up a freelance job with a friend of mine, and getting more involved with this other project I've been a part of for a couple months. I am deciding whether or not to stay with it during summer or not. It's one of those things that's either going to fly high and make me a lot of money, or die before it goes public, and I feel like the pressure is on me to decide which it's going to be. More on that later I guess.
I'm trying to get plugged in to the intelligent systems lab on campus to build robots. I went to one of their demos, and it looks really cool, but ... it's that time commitment thing again. I at least want to be a tutor for their summer 'bot camp and teach some high schoolers the ways of the Basic Stamp and BEAM 'bots. I also promised to work at my current job for 24 hours a week (3 8-hour days) over the summer until I leave for EU.
I have to sign a lease this week for the house I plan on living in next year. It's a nice house on 8th Ave, but it's called, I kid you not, the "nerdery". Lots of CS/Engineering/physics majors, but all really cool people. I guess I'm just nervous signing a lease for a year with a bunch of people I only halfway know. I don't want to wind up with another cokehead, that's all. *sigh*
Never got around to CSS Reboot this year either. There's always next year I suppose. It's that whole time committment thing again...
