Well, I thought I might tell how unreal2k3 went installing. Hmmm. It was easy. I got it on withought any touble, but it runs kind of strange. The lighting is all weird, and it emphasizes edges and flashes alot, but is still fun to play. It runs alot slower than its predecessor, but I am not complaining :) I clocked it at about 15 (okay, 14.97) frames per second during an all-bot simulation on my machine. If you want to see what I have, look at the my computer link to the left...
Anyway, lately I have been playing with server side scripst and programs. First in perl, but that was, well, interesting, so now I am going to try to teach myself php from the web, then get a book as soon as I can. (never?) So, wish me luck in my adventure of php. Peace.
I was downlaoding Unreal Tournament 2003 today from our school's t1 line, and got 130KB/sec for a full two minutes, then it slowed down to 80, and fluxuated from there. IT was awsome. I am installing it tonight, and am going to try to get it installed on the laptop. I already got GOTY edition on it to have some lan games during lunch. Well, I am in class, so bye all.

VNC. way cool program. do a google search for it and go to the att page (i think it was the first result) and get it if you have 2 or more computers. I have been playing around with it for a few days, and its awsome. Anyway, my school is awsome still, because we just finished the unit on the really hard unit on the founding brothers book. Also, we are writing programs on our ti calculators for math. Oh man, but spanish is stupid. Our gay teacher quit (for no apparent reason) and now we have this guy who thinks that we are college students (it is a college class :).) and told us today that for every hour you spend in class, you should spend 2 hours at home studying. Lets see... we have 2 hour classes twice a week, thats 8 hours at home plus the four we already spen in class... 12 hours for one frickin class. Every week. 12 hours. One class. sucks, don't it?

happy monday is a contradiction, right? So I get up this morning and I find that I am late for school. I jump in the shower and then drive to school to get there right on time. I knew something was fishy when I saw no students being dropped off, but the parking lot was almost full. I run into my first period class to find it empty, aside from the principal and two teachers who look at me and laugh. "David, what are YOU doing here?" Oh crap. In service day that they declined to tell me about. So now I go home and turn on the big bad machine I call home. My computer.

There are a few signs you can get that your parents either have too much money, too much time, are too geeky, or all of the above. My dad recently bought a robotic vaccum cleaner from the sharper image. What is the world coming to? Its like the jetsons, but lets not go there...
Not like I am complaining. I personally love the little thing that came in the mail today. It stands a few inches tall, beeps all the time, and cleans the kitchen floor while I either watch it in awe, or go online. Okay, let me get a few things across... I love robots. If you havent seen the robotics section on this site, you may not know this, but I have since I was a kid (just ask anyone in my 8th grade class :)). So when this thing got here, I just wanted to see how it worked. It is actually, to say the least, ingenius. It did, however, go through 14 different releases before it even came out on the market. So this guy (we have yet to name him) it pretty darn smart. The program that he runs on must be extremely long, because he is one intelligent vaccuum. (don't say that every day). If you want to know more, go to the site, or email me. If you have the 200 bucks, go get one, cuz they're awsome.
oh yeah, photo courtesy of irobot
At my school, we had an awsome lan game at lunch. It was pretty laggy, but we didn't set up a dedicated server, so what can you do? im going bowling again tonight also, so yeah. im done

Hmmm. Laptop+David+T1 line=happiness
Yup, that about sums up my life at school :) Well, schoolwork too. We are making websites right now, and it is booorrring. We also just started this virtual stock exchange thing where we make money on the internet (but it isn't real). I wish it was... every person starts out with $500k. That would be nice... We had a really nice lady come to our house for dinner, and my parents brought her into my room to show her what I did all day, (her husband is like the smartest computer nerd in the world) and she was all "dont let my husband in here... he would never come out!" So that pretty much sums up my life at home. That pic is as of yesterday. If you can't figure out what day I published this... well, lets not go there.

Well, I am a happy guy, because I DID get my laptop at 11 oclock this morning. I am on it now... It is a pretty nice Gateway P4 1.6 gig, 256 Mb RAM, integrated wireless, CDRW (16x), firewire, etc... I shall say more when I get there...
Sorry about my venting yesterdy on that whole thing... That will be the last time I do that.
Anyway, just wanted to update with my school... I get my new laptop at eleven o clock today, so wish me luck... I hope all goes well and I get it. If they trust me :) Well, I am off to go do more homework... We are making a web page for a school project... What fun.

9.11.2001
How much has YOUR life changed? Enough? Not enough?
We all probably wish it never happened, but the harsh truth is that it has. We cant change that. Its done. However, we CAN change how we react to it.
The reason I'm writing this is because my family had a couple over for dinner tonight, and my parents were talking to them about something or other with me just sitting there smiling and nodding. Then the lady made a reference to 9.11 like she said it every day. It was something like "well, that must have been after nine-one-one because of..." and went off about whatever she was saying. Hmmm. Makes me think that... You know, I don't even know what to think. I have seen countless articles about how we need to "get over it, but never forget it" Yeah, like we are EVER gonna get over it, or EVER forget it. The thing is is that it has been embedded in our minds. So what my question is, is how are we going to react to it now that its a year and a few months after. How many thousand people died? Sure its a statistic, but how many people died? Are dead. Never going to breathe. Never going to see, hear, talk, smile, think, love, live... nothing. They are dead. But now what can we do? I don't even know if I am over it. I could be trendy and say that I am, but truly... am I? Are you?
It frustrates me.

Hmmm. We are starting our unit on HTML in new media design class. [yawn]. While my teacher was lecturing, I found that my homepage wasn't HTML 4.0.1 transitional compliant. I shall fix that today when I get time. First, I have to work on doing other things, like schoolwork. I have a big project due on friday I need to work on. This is a nothing post I just realized.

School is fun until you have to work. I have the rough draft of an essay due tomorrow, and I havent yet gotten around to doing it... Hopefully I will before I fall asleep. Speaking of, last night was strange. I fell asleep with my head on my desk I was so tired. I woke up at 3 in the morning at my desk, with the music blaring on my stereo, while still signed on AIM. It was startling to say the least. Before I had gone to bed, I had set my computer to render a SVCD of my video to then convert to DivX (which I have done, btw), and fell asleep at my desk. Pretty scary.

I went to a forty niners game yesterday. They were playing the rams, and beat them 37 to 13 or something like that. On top of that, the giants won their game in atlanta today 3 to 1, so they are going further into the postseason. I really, truthfully am not a sports guy. In fact, I think that sports are lame if you aren't playing them, and usually even if you are (competitively, that is), but as a californian, I feel bound to root for them.
Anyway, i added music to the wakeboarding video, including that from AFI, propellerheads, blur, and a few others (I like variety :) ). I am on version 3.0, and I think it is just about complete, aside form a few finishing touches. I am working on an MPEG-4 version (thats DivX ;) to super-compress it. It is rendering it right now. I hope it works...
The video isn't even due until the 18th... hmmm. I may have found a server for it too, so if I get a DivX version going, I will post it online tomorrow, and a link here. Cross your fingers.

Our school server is up and running, at least for the moment... Give it a minute. Anyway, I now have a school e-mail you can reach me at. It is dstillman@anths.org if you really wish. For personal e-mail, please make it to destillman@yahoo.com. Well, thats all I have to say about that.

Another day hath gone by. I hope my friday goes better than my thursday. I did find out a thing about my teachers at school... they have to be the coolest teachers in the world. Teachers will be teachers, but as far as teachers go, i think my school has the best couple of teachers out there. Mr. Gerodette is (despite what you may hear) perhaps the coolest teacher. I mean, who else do you know is as smart as he is, while still down to earth? His jokes will never be funny, but at least he tries. (Q: what do you call a guy making tea on the top of mt. everest? A: high pot in use *its a math joke...) So yeah.
Wish me luck as I take of friday. argh.

So I go out today to Circuit City and get this brand spankin new 56k external modem, right? This thing is the only piece of hardware my new machine is lacking, so now I can finally get online with my RedHat 7.3 OS, right? Wrong. I go to boot to RH, and it just says... boot failed. Thats all, nothing more except 'boot failed'. This kinda pisses me off, as it would anyone in their right mind, so I decide to try and do it again. Same thing. So now, I go to the cd and get the recovery .img file, and find that its not even on the CD, so I am screwed. I am a newbie when it comes to linux, so I am now stressed out trying to find a recovery tool so I can boot to friggin linux and get online! Wish me luck...
