remember the stump...

Remember the stump? Well, turns out that when I hit it, my wheels were out of alignment just enough so that after 5,000 miles it wore down my tires to almost nothing on the front inside edge of them. Well, I took the car in (with mom's checkbook in hand; what would I do without them?) to the shop and had the guy ooh and ahh at it for a while, then he took it in all day yesterday and fixed it. He swapped out the "front subframe and steering rods" as they call it (metal bar thingies to me) and took it in for an alignment. Well, before it steered to the right, now it just goes forward, no swerving or nothing! And more than all that, my car has new speakers in it! Now if I could just get the two oil leaks fixed and get new shocks for it, it would be the finest 72 horsepower beast on the road!

finally, we all find out david still lives.

Hey all. I know, I know, AmStud is boring, or PolyStud or whatever class you happen to be in at the time of you reading this. Well, I am back. I thought about shutting down stilldavid.com for a bit while I regain my sanity as college starts and my job starts getting more and more stressful interesting.
I decided not to, because ... well, I don't even know why. Maybe it's just the fact that I am a geek and having a presence on the web is mandatory (see: www.JustJD.com). And after seeing the profound conversations that people can have in my phorum, the flames, the insults, and the accusations (see: chels), I just couldn't shut the site down.
Well. Here I sit, like many of you, (see: timestamps on phorum) in Political Studies with our new principal/teacher Allison yelling at me about our paper that was due last week that I have yet to submit to her... I think I had better go. If you know Ms. A, you too know the havoc she can wreak on a person's grade (see: Aeries, online gradebook).
Peace, and I promise more in the coming days, weeks, and months.

from slashdot...

Taken from a readers' comment at slashdot:

<snippet>
In a nutshell, the reason the educational system has gone to hell is that teachers have *NO LEVERAGE* over students. Teachers have no way to *make* kids do anything. The only options teachers have for disciplining kids is to have them removed from the classroom (suspension, on campus retention, etc). Guess what, the kids don't care :) Most of the time when a teacher calls a kids parents the parents yell at the TEACHER and threaten to sue and whatnot. The teachers are in an impossible situation. A family member of mine once called a girls mother because she didn't write an essay. A whole *stinkin* half page essay. The assignment was to research something about apples and write it in essay format. The mother (who was black) came down to the school and screamed at said family member, "You're a racist! Black people don't eat apples! Apples are white people food. If the assignment was on sweet potatos then my daughter could have done it! Black people eat those!"

And I couldn't agree more.
